Ο Οργανισμός ιδρύθηκε το 1928 και λειτούργησε για πολλά χρόνια ως C. A. Papaellinas & Co., υπό την επωνυμία του ιδρυτή του Κώστα Α. Παπαέλληνα. Το 1952 τον διαδέχθηκε ο Cyprus Pharmaceutical Organization Limited, εν συντομία CPO, που είναι η κύρια εμπορική εταιρεία του Ομίλου σήμερα.
